Why Do Some Fire Departments Ask For Donations?

The Wurtsboro Fire Department is manned completely by volunteers, so no one actually works all day long at the firehouse as a main job.

The Village of Wurtsboro and surrounding areas that are within the Wurtsboro Fire District help to provide the equipment and apparatus needed to fight fires, contain emergencies, and save lives and property. However, helping our community doesn’t stop there. The brave firefighters and members of the WFD Auxiliary devote hours of time all year long when not fighting fires, to provide events and services for people of all ages within our community. Firefighters themselves never accept personal rewards or gifts. Though, many times people may wish to make a donation to WFD so that many programs and events may continue for people of all ages in our neighborhoods within the fire district.
